Richard Shimer, MD, is a board-certified general surgeon with Lake Charles Memorial Health System, and serves as the Medical Director of Trauma Services at Memorial Hospital, the area’s only designated Level III trauma center.
Dr. Shimer has a Bachelor of Science in Natural Science from Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pennsylvania. He received his medical degree from the Medical College of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. His post-graduate training includes a surgical residency at the Pennsylvania State University program at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown.
He has practiced in southwest Louisiana since 2002, specializing in traumatic and complex minimally invasive laparoscopic surgeries and endoscopy. As director of the nationally recognized regional trauma center, Dr. Richard Shimer represents the five parish area on the Louisiana Emergency Response Network.
